Every 15 Minutes
The Every Fifteen Minutes program was started in Washington by the Spokane Police Department and is currently being used by several counties and cities. At the program’s inception, every fifteen minutes in the United States of America, someone was seriously injured or killed in an alcohol involved crash. Since that time, fatal and serious injury collisions have fallen from once every 15 minutes to once every 42 minutes. Cowlitz County began the program in 1996 and programs like these help reduce that startling number among our younger drivers. Our goal is to prevent our youth from becoming part of that statistic. The program is a two-day experience designed to caution high school seniors against the dangers of drinking and driving, and the consequences of the decisions they make. Local law enforcement meet and discuss with the students topics related to drinking, taking drugs, and driving; they also talk about making mature, responsible decisions when lives are at stake--whether it be their own, or someone else's.
Every year, the program is funded through donations from community organizations and individuals.
